Maher Terminals
Digitalizing visitor management, safety inductions and suspensions

Client: Maher Terminals (Port of New York & New Jersey, USA)
Challenge: Manual visitor management for ship service providers, paper-based safety inductions, and manual suspension procedures for driver misconduct
Solution: Visits Management module, Safety Induction module and Suspensions module
Maher Terminals handles a high volume of external personnel every day, particularly ship service providers who require fast and secure access to vessels and operational areas. The terminal's visitor management process was largely manual, relying on paperwork and traditional approval workflows that created delays and administrative bottlenecks during peak operational periods.
In addition, safety inductions were delivered in person, requiring visitors and contractors to complete the process on-site before entering the facility. This increased waiting times and consumed valuable resources from the HSSE team. The terminal also faced challenges in managing driver misconduct, as suspensions and disciplinary actions were handled manually, making it difficult to ensure consistency, traceability and effective communication with affected drivers.
Before designing the solution, the Stowlog team visited Maher Terminals and spent time with operational and HSSE teams to understand how daily activities were coordinated and where the main operational pain points existed. This close collaboration ensured that the platform was configured around the terminal's real workflows and business needs.
Maher Terminals implemented three core Stowlog modules. The Visits Management module digitalized the entire visitor journey, allowing ship service providers and other external personnel to submit requests online and significantly reducing administrative effort. The Safety Induction module enabled visitors to complete mandatory training remotely before arriving at the terminal, while the Suspensions module introduced a structured and fully traceable workflow for managing driver violations, temporary bans and corrective actions.
