The Castellón-based start-up that digitises ports is making the leap to the Caribbean and opening an office in the United States

The technology firm Stowlog, led by Pablo Aguirre, has been selected by the European Union to modernise ports in the Caribbean and is expanding its business into North America.

The tech company Stowlog, formerly known as Estudio Cactus, has established itself as a key player in the modernisation of the port logistics sector. Led by its CEO, Pablo Aguirre, the company has developed a product focused on “digitising security operations at maritime terminals”, a niche that has enabled it to expand into 18 countries.

Aguirre has highlighted the surprising lack of digitalisation in the sector, even as far ahead as 2026. “You’d be surprised at the number of procedures that are still carried out on paper, even in ports and in top-tier countries,” he noted. The company identified this gap as a major opportunity to offer a centralised and specialised solution that did not exist on the market.

Opportunity in the Caribbean

Stowlog’s potential has caught the attention of the European Union. Pablo Aguirre recounted how he received a call from the secretary to the EU ambassador in Barbados inviting him to take part in the Global Gateway project, which aims to “help digitise Caribbean ports” through innovation.

The Castellón-based firm was one of eight European companies selected for a mission that took them to Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago, and Antigua and Barbuda. Aguirre described the experience as a challenge against large corporations: “It was David versus Goliath; we’re talking about companies listed on the stock exchange in Finland, a French company, an Italian company, and us as the sole representatives of Spain and, of course, of Castellón.”

Expansion into the United States

In an exclusive announcement, Pablo Aguirre has revealed a new milestone in the company’s expansion. “We’ve just set up a company in the United States,” he revealed. This subsidiary not only represents a key strategic move but will also serve as a base for “channelling our entire strategy towards the Caribbean and Latin America”, consolidating the company’s presence in the Americas.

Six years after winning the young entrepreneurs’ award, the Stowlog team’s innovative spirit remains undiminished. Aguirre admitted that he hopes to keep that spirit alive forever: “If people want to call us entrepreneurs for the rest of our lives, we’ll be delighted, because we’ll always strive to be entrepreneurs.”
